SNAP – Spay/Neuter Assistance Program

In April of 2006, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) created SNAP (Spay/Neuter Assistance Program) for families in financial need of spay/neuter services for their pets. SNAP provides free spay/neuter surgeries for your dog(s) and cat(s) at participating veterinarians throughout the valley. The program is funded solely by FACCs, which relies on YOUR DONATIONS to keep it going.

  1. Dogs participating in SNAP must be at least three months of age or weigh a minimum of three pounds. Cats participating in the program must weigh at least two pounds. Dogs and cats participating in the program must not be older than seven years of age.
  2. Your voucher will arrive in the mail approximately four weeks after you have submitted your completed application.
  3. Once you receive your voucher you will have 90 days, from the date of issue, to schedule a sterilization appointment with one of the contracted veterinarians identified on your voucher. No refunds will be made if the voucher expires. Vouchers may not be duplicated. You must advise the clinic if someone other than the person listed on the voucher will be taking the pet in on the date of surgery.
  4. The voucher and a photo ID must be presented to the veterinary clinic at the time of your pet’s surgery.
  5. Though the spay/neuter surgery for your pet is at no cost to you, some veterinarians may recommend the purchase of pain medications, additional vaccinations, or other services, which would be at your expense. Please ask about this when making the appointment and remember—you may choose any of the veterinarians on the list provided with your voucher.
  6. If your dog is three months of age or older and does not have a current Maricopa County dog license, you must purchase one within 30 days following the date of surgery to avoid additional penalty fees and possible citation.
  7. The program is not intended for feral cats.
