Why Spay/Neuter?

Millions of animals are euthanized at shelters across the United States every year. Many of these dogs and cats are friendly, loveable and would have made wonderful companion animals. Unfortunately, there are more dogs and cats than there are homes.

We support Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) and their efforts to increase the adoption rate at their shelters, and to educate the public on their responsibilities as pet owners. We also strongly believe that the best way to reduce the pet homelessness problem within our community is to spay and neuter our animals. This is an easy step toward a solution.

You may have heard that altering your pet will make him lazy, or change her personality. Here are some benefits and myths of spaying and neutering:

  • Helps with problem spraying and marking, and other behavior problems
  • Helps reduce costly medical bills
  • Reduces the chance your pet will get lost, since it won't have the urge to roam
  • Eliminates messy heat cycles
  • Reduces the cost of a dog license as licenses for altered dogs are less expensive
  • Ensures that no more unwanted animals are born

Spay/Neuter myths:

  • It makes your pet fat
  • It causes your pet to be weak or lazy
  • It changes your pets personality or disposition
  • A female cat or dog must have at least one litter for normal development
